With the news late last year that the current president of the Evangelical Covenant Church, John Wenrich, would not be seeking reelection, the Presidential Search Committee for our denomination was in full swing. The call went out for nominations and, in the end, the committee was charged with considering and discerning the right nominee from more than 40 names. Last month, they announced their nominee, and I am very excited about the prospect.
The Rev. Tammy Swanson-Draheim has been chosen as the nominee. Tammy is a colleague in ministry and I have had the pleasure of working with her several times over the past few years, most notably, when we served on the Board of the Ordered Ministry together, from 2007-2012. In addition to that, Tammy has also served as the superintendent of the MidWest conference. If she is elected, Tammy will be the first female president in the denomination's history. Beyond that distinction, Tammy is a gifted leader, pastor, preacher, and administrator, and she will be a gift to our larger Covenant Church family.
