Pastor Chuck Potts Chosen as Candidate for ECC Pastor of Young Adults

2022-6-21 | Courntey FitzSimons

Over the past seven months, the search committee for the Pastor of Young Adults met multiple times to prayerfully read and discuss seven pastor profiles. After much discernment, we pursued Zoom interviews with two potential candidates.

Both applicants were brought onsite for in-person interviews, tours of the town, and fellowship with the committee and their spouses. Strong relationships were developed with both candidates. After some very intentional time in prayer for wisdom and clarity, the Holy Spirit led us to a unanimous vote.

As the chairperson of the search committee, I am excited to announce that we have invited Chuck Potts to candidate at ECC the weekend of July 22-24, 2022.

Chuck served a total of 9 summers in Christian camp ministries, most of which were at Covenant Harbor Bible Camp. After graduating from North Park University with his BA in Communications and Media in 2009, Chuck returned to camp as the program director for the summer where he met his wife, Heather. They married in 2011, which is also when Chuck began serving in vocational ministry in the church. For the past 8 years, Chuck has served as the Pastor to Students and Children at Valley Covenant Church in Stillman Valley, Illinois. He took one class at a time to obtain his Masters in Christian Formation from North Park Theological Seminary in 2020. This led him through the Ordination pathway, where he will now officially be Ordained to Word and Service this week at the Covenant Annual meeting in Kansas City.

Chuck’s wife Heather recently graduated with her nursing degree with a passion for serving new mothers in Labor and Delivery. Chuck and Heather have three boys that they describe as a handful, in the best of ways. They are fun, energetic and love to laugh, all while being very kind and loving to all they meet. Their boys are Sean, 9; Ben, 6; and Mason, 2.

While caring for three kids leaves little free time for hobbies, Chuck loves movies, good food, fun family vacations, fantasy football, and games of all types.

I cherish the connection I’ve made with Chuck and Healther, and I personally cannot wait for the rest of you to meet and get to know the Potts family, as well.

Details are still being finalized for the candidating weekend but plans are to have time to meet and greet the candidate and to ask questions of him. He will also preach during worship on Sunday morning, July 24.

The following Tuesday evening, July 26, 2022, we will then hold a special congregational meeting to vote on the candidate.

We ask for your prayer for Chuck, Heather, and their family, and for the candidating weekend. Please pray for the collective wisdom of the congregation and that we will be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
