Update: Pastor of Young Adults Search Committee

2022-2-15 | Pastor Kristin Mueller

In November, as our congregation voted to call a Pastor of Young Adults, a new search committee was voted on and established as well. As a member of that search committee, I can honestly say that I am excited for the work that is ahead of us, and I’m eager to see all the ways that God works in and through our team as we follow God’s direction and leading.

We wanted to share a brief update on where we are at in the search process. In sharing an update, we also ask that you would commit to pray with us in this season and in this search. A job description was finalized by the ECC Council in January, and this job description can be found online. Once the job description was in place, we were able to share it with the denomination and post it in a database for Covenant pastors who are searching for a new call.

When Pastor Stacey, Pastor Kurt, and I attended the Midwinter conference at the end of January, we did so with the job description in hand. We shared the opening with many in conversation, and we encouraged several people to send us their minister’s profile through the Covenant database. We have received some profiles already through the database, and the search committee will read and review these profiles at our upcoming meeting. As we connect with the conference offices, we will also be requesting that they send the profiles of candidates who they discern could be a good fit for our church and this pastoral position.

We are in the beginning stages of this process, where we are distributing the job description and gathering information from prospective candidates. Even in this beginning stage, I have been moved by the spoken corporate prayers of our search committee. We have devoted time at each meeting to praying out loud together, and as I hear everyone pray I catch glimpses into who this new leader could be and how God could use this person in a powerful way in the lives of our teens and young adults.

While much of the work will be done by the search committee members, there are also ways that our whole church body can be involved in this process. First, and most importantly, we invite and encourage you to join us in prayer. Pray for this process, pray for discernment and wisdom for all those involved, pray for the candidates who will apply, pray for clear direction as to which applicants we should pursue, and pray for the past, present, and future young adults who are impacted by this search.

Second, we invite you to share the job description with any candidates you know who might be a good fit for our Pastor of Young Adults. We are praying that news of this job opening reaches those who would be a good ministry match, and each of you can help in this process.

Finally, if you have a heart for our teens and young adults, we do have ministry happening right now and there is room for you to be involved. If you would like to talk more about how you might invest in the lives of the young adults in our church, please contact me, Pastor Kristin, or Meghan McClellan, and we would be delighted to help find a place where you can serve.
