Miller Elementary and Bauer Partnership

Get involved in this amazing ministry.

Partnership with Miller Elementary

ECC is entering our 13th year in partnership with Miller Elementary School and God is at work! We are so blessed to be a part of the school’s journey towards success. God has led us each step of the way, revealing what we are to do and when! We have so many opportunities to get involved in this amazing ministry. We know that life is full, so we have opportunities to volunteer one time, occasionally, and even weekly!

For more information on any of these opportunities, please email Ronda Ooms.

Bauer Community Center Meals

Every Thursday evening, ECC congregants, gather at Bauer Community Center to put together a hot meal for families in the Lafayette area. At this time we are serving it as a drive thru/carry out option due to the COVID 19 restrictions. Our serving time is 5:30-6:30pm. We serve meals every Thursday that Bauer Community Center is open throughout the year.

If you are interested in helping serve, please email Ronda

One-Time Opportunities

Back to School Carnival

ECC co-hosts an annual Back to School Carnival with Bauer Community Center at Miller Elementary School. It is a fun way to bless Miller families and their neighbors as they celebrate and prepare for the start of the new school year! This event is typically the first Friday of August, before school begins.

Sponsor a Child for School Uniforms

Each year, ECC helps families identified by Miller in purchasing clothing compliant with the school dress code. A $40 donation per child is recommended, but any amount is great! ECC sponsors approximately 40 children each year.

Christmas

Each year, in early December, we host a Christmas party and gift shopping for families that are involved with our Afterschool JAM ministry. Volunteers are needed to host, do crafts, and help with the gift shopping area.

Summer XP

Our VBS meets at Miller School the first full week of June each year. There are so many ways to be involved at Summer XP. Check out our video recap from Summer XP 2019 here.

Periodic Opportunities

Family Meals

The second Tuesday of most months, we host a family meal at Miller. This is a great way to build community and encourage families to get involved. Volunteers help with food prep, serving, and clean up.

Library

Interested individuals come in to help the librarian with any needs that she has. Days and times are flexible to fit your schedule!

Staff Appreciation

Approximately four times a year, ECC provides encouragement for the wonderful and hardworking staff at Miller Elementary School. We are looking for creative people with the gift of encouragement to help!

Monthly Birthday Cookies

School children love to bring in treats for their birthdays to share with their class, but this is not possible for many children at Miller. Each month, ECC volunteers bake cookies for each of the 20 classrooms at Miller. This allows all of the children to celebrate birthdays with their classes, even if they are unable to bring in treats themselves.

Weekly Opportunities

Afterschool Jam

During the school year, each Thursday from 3:00-5:30pm our team meets with 15 children from Miller. We work on community building and various character traits using Bible-based activities.

Backpacks

Thursdays from 1:30-3:30pm

Our team packs 100 backpacks with food for the weekend for children in need.

Lunch Buddies

Volunteers are matched with a child who is recommended by teachers. Adult and child meet weekly for one hour during the lunch period between 11:00am-1:00pm.

Read to Succeed

Through United Way's Read to Succeed program, volunteers serve at Miller, committing to one hour per week, tutoring students with reading activities during the morning hours.
